Modern Trees

A little while back I saw that Christa at Christa Quilts was holding a quilt along for Modern (Christmas) Trees.  She was using the Tri Tool by EZ quilting which I just happen to have in my collection of tools.  I wanted to join in but had so many other commitments that I wasn't sure I could.  I mean I still have my quilt along from Polly's Hexies by Halves cut out and sitting next to my machine, waiting to be pieced.  But after last weeks Talknt chat on twitter I was hit with inspiration.  It was mentioned that a Christmas quilt with lime green and pink would be fun, it's my colors!  So Thursday last week I set to pulling fabrics and started on a Christmas quilt just for me.

I cut strips of the two green fabrics and then sliced diagonal lines into it randomly and sewed varying widths of pink into it.  Each green had two strips so I was able to have the diagonals going both ways on the trees in the quilt.

These practically flew together.  All the fabrics are batiks, I loved the texture that they all add to the quilt.

By Sunday I had the top together.  I honestly chose this layout because it had no corners to match, I was not in the mood to make sure I had perfect corners, haha.

Now to choose how to quilt it.  I am not sure exactly how I want to yet.

Loving how it looks from the back with the sun shining through.  It looks like stained glass to me.

So after spending some time away from my machine it was nice to get back to some sewing and even better to have such a fast fun finish.

  1. Oh! I was lucky to see this quilt top in person tonight. It is a beauty! Love the lime green and pink together.
